New Zealand's Campbell Grayson recovered from a blood injury in the fifth game to overcome top-seeded Malaysian Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan in today's superb final of the Victorian Open squash tournament in Melbourne.
Grayson was down 4-6 in the fifth of the climax of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 event at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre when he was hit in the nose by Adnan's elbow and was forced to take a 20-minute break to stop the bleeding.
But when he returned, the 26-year-old second seed from Auckland looked the fresher of the two players as he took seven of the next nine points to win the final 11-9, 4-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8 after 110 minutes.
"Wan's (Adnan) a really strong guy and we were both taking up space in the middle - it was very physical," Grayson said afterwards. "It wasn't a great time for it to happen."
It was the Kiwi's fourth title on the men's tour and his first since May 2011, and should see him break back into the top 50 when the new rankings are released at the end of the month.
